CAPTAIN MARTIN IBARRA SANDEZ, CABO SAN LUCAS CHARTER FISHING CAPTAIN
Born and raised in Southern Baja, Mexico, English-speaking Captain Martin has been a fisherman his entire life. His experience as a charter Captain goes back decades - he's going on his 30th year as a professional charter fisherman here in Cabo. His career in sport fishing began in 1984 as a deckhand for the Pisces Sportfishing fleet. His biggest tuna, a bruiser that tipped the scales at 305lbs, was taken aboard the boat Andrea, which was part of the Pisces fleet. Captain Martin also worked with another long established Cabo based charter company, the Gaviota Fleet. As a deckhand aboard on of their boats, Martin helped land an 858lb Blue Marlin... the largest billfish of his career and a fish that often comes only once in a lifetime. His many years of experience learning all the techniques that play a critical role in succesful fishing in Los Cabos led to many offers for a Captain's position.

Martin opted to sign on with the Solmar Fleet for his first stint as a Captain aboard the boat, El Torito, a 31 foot Bertram. If we didn't have the Blackfin, a Bertram would be our second choice as the right type of boat for these waters. Martin remained at the helm with Solmar for 17 years. It was aboard the El Torito that he led a team of anglers to a 2nd place finish in the Bisbee's Black & Blue – then and still the richest fishing tournament in the world. The 564lb Black Marlin was eclipsed by a Blue that tipped the scales at 632lbs. It may not have been a coincidence that the winning fish also came to a boat in the Gaviota Fleet.... the Gaviota 1. Martin trained many of the Captains and crew that ran the other boats in that fleet including the crew that caught the winning fish, hooking up just 15 minutes before line's out.... the close of fishing on the final day of the tourney!

A few years later, Martin ran a new fleet, Ana Mar Sportfishing that had 3 boats in its stable: a 28' Bertram, a 31' Innovator and a 33' Blackfin. After 5 years of running that charter fleet, we were lucky enough to land him as our Captain, in part because we bought the right boat – a boat that Martin thinks is best suited to Cabo fishing – El Bandito, our 29' Blackfin Flybridge Sportfisher. Martin has been at the helm of El Bandito ever since and we can honestly say we couldn't be happier. Martin represents the best of what a true charter Captain is all about. Honesty, integrity and a work ethic that's driven by his passion for taking folks out fishing and catching. Well known and very much respected by the Cabo fishing community, we know you'll appreciate him as much as we do once you get aboard El Bandito.

WHAT'S BETTER THAN ONE GREAT CAPTAIN? TWO GREAT CAPTAINS!
Janitzio Quintana Verdugo was born & raised in the Cabo area in a small farming town called Miraflores. His father worked for the Solmar Fleet & Janitzio would often join his father on fishing trips when he was just 8 years old. He first met Captain Martin, who also worked for Solmar, during that period of his life. After completing high school, Janitzio started working as a full time deckhand with the Solmar Fleet. His hard work and dedication to sportfishing paid off – he was promoted to Captain of the Solmar III. When his friend Martin started managing the AnaMar Sportfishing boats Janitzio joined him as captain of the AnaMar III, a 33' Blackfin, running that boat for 4years. Next he was recruited by another charter boat owner, Renegade Mike, whose reputation as a big tuna chaser and catcher was enough for Janitzio to make the change. He wanted to learn more about targeting cow yellowfin tuna and remained with Mike as Captain for 3 years aboard a 31' Bertram.

When we started Redhot Sportfishing Janitzio jumped at the opportunity to once again fish with his good friend Captain Martin and took the position of deckhand/2nd Captain. We consider ourselves to be very fortunate to have them on El Bandito. Together they are a great team with decades of fishing experience and the ability to know how each other thinks and how they fish. The fact that both are licensed Captains means we have constant backup at the helm. Last year, during the 2012 IGFA Offshore World Championship in Cabo, Janitzio was asked to captain the Top Gun. He placed 9th out of 46 in the Top Captains category catching and releasing 11 billfish during the tournament. His top biggest fish to date are a 650lb black marlin and a 265lb yellowfin tuna.
